The Ergonomic Pillow: Ergo, We Sleep Better

Ergonomic PillowBefore we can describe the qualities of an ergonomic pillow it would be good to explore the origins of the term "ergonomic".

The definition of the term ergonomic, as defined by the International Ergonomics Association in 2002, is a task, job, environment, system, or product that has been made compatible to people's "needs, abilities and limitations." So, in other words, ergonomics, or human engineering, is all about efficiency. In the 1800s, Frederick Winslow Taylor came up with the "Scientific Management" method, which tried to find the best possible way a job could be performed. By making coal shovels smaller and lighter, he tripled the amount of coal that workers could shovel in one day. Later, Frank and Lilian Gilbreth took Taylor's idea a step further and created "Time and Motion Studies," which sought to make tasks simpler by omitting extra steps and actions. They cut down the number of motions in bricklaying from 18 to 4.5, increasing productivity by 120 to 350 bricks per hour.

Since then, ergonomics has also found application in design for consumer products, making them safer, more dependable, and less difficult to use.

One such product is the ergonomic pillow. Visco-elastic memory foam pillows have been designed specially for the alleviation of chronic neck pain. The foam is denser than that of a traditional foam pillow, allowing it to distribute pressure evenly and cradle the sleeper's head. There are various types of memory foam pillows from the contour memory foam pillow to the traditionally shaped memory foam pillow. The contour pillow is an ergonomic pillow designed to provide equal comfort to back, side, and stomach sleepers alike. Our MemorRest contour pillow accommodates all three positions and is extremely comfortable.

The MemoRest ergonomic pillow available from Absolute Comfort On Sale is one of the finest and least expensive of its kind.

The MemoRest comes in three sizes to accommodate all types of beds: standard (4.5" by 15" by 21"), queen (4.5" by 16" by 28"), and king (4.5" by 16" by 32"). Each has a machine washable cover, fit standard size pillowcases, and incorporate channel ventilation to help make sure your sleep is a cool, comfortable one.

Many other products besides the ergonomic pillow have undergone changes to improve user comfort. The steering wheel, which was once hard and solid, is now padded for an improved grip. Many toothbrushes are angled to better reach the back of our mouths. Computers can come with glare reduction screens to save our eyes, and curved keyboards to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. Thanks to ergonomics, the world we live in is a lot more comfortable. Thanks to the MemorRest contour pillow we can all sleep better.
