First we must ask: What is a pillow top mattress cover?
A visco foam mattress pad is composed of "memory foam" and is placed on top of a regular mattress, hence the nick name "topper". This 100% visco foam mattress pad gives added comfort and luxury due to the unique properties of memory foam. The memory in the foam holds or remembers the body's impression. This cradling of the body by the memory foam provides extra relief from pressure points so you sleep more soundly with less tossing and turning. No wonder everyone is buying them! The visco foam mattress pad should be made of 100% memory foam and be either 4 pound density or 5 pound density. The memory foam that is 3 pound density or less is too much like regular polyurethane foam and is often made in China. It doesn't have the exceptional properties of higher quality memory foam. This cheaper memory foam is usually sold in big department stores. Higher density memory foam, such as 4 and 5 pound density, has the cradling effect of high quality memory foam and relieves pressure points.
The 5 pound density memory foam is found in the tempurpedic mattress topper and in our 3 inch and 4 inch Sensus memory foam. 5 pound density memory foam is considered the most luxurious visco foam mattress pad. And the foam is more durable. But some people find the 5 pound a little stiff or firm.
The 4 pound density memory foam is found in the isotonic mattress pad and in our 2 inch and 3 inch Memor Rest memory foam mattress toppers. When we compare one memory foam topper to another we find the 4 pound density memory foam to be slightly softer then the 5 pound. The 3 pound density memory foam or less will not have the unique memory foam properties of the 4 or 5 pound density as mentioned above.
