The bedroom should be a room of rest and relaxation. Ideally only the bed should be placed in the bedroom with no televisions or computers. A bedroom is a room design specifically for a bed. You should feel that when you go into the bedroom that you are going there only to rest, nap or sleep: Not to play video games or listen to noisy television programs.
Ideally there should be nothing under the bed or stashed in storage baskets. A room with just a bed creates the most soothing and settled atmosphere. A bedside table with a book which is relaxing can also be place in the room or a CD player to play some soft music. The room should be kept quiet and should not be used for a lot of conversation or loud music. Also the air in the bedroom should be fresh and always have good ventilation. In this way the environment of the bedroom will help to promote a deep and restful sleep.
According to some systems of ancient architecture such as Sthapatya Veda of India the bedroom should be placed in the western part of the house where the sun sets. This creates a settled atmosphere as opposed to the eastern part of the house which is exposed to the rising sun and creates an atmosphere of wakefulness.
